LCD Soundsystem Kicks Off Fox Theater, Oakland Four Show Residency

Last night (August 16) LCD Soundsystem began a short residency at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California. This is the first of four shows for the New York electronic band at the Fox Theater before they move to the Warfield in San Francisco next weekend for another short-lived residency. These weekend stays follow a string of similar residencies the band performed over in London in late June and early July. This is all leading up to the band’s appearance at the California festival, This Ain’t No Picnic.

LCD Soundsystem is led by producer/singer/songwriter James Murphy who started the band twenty years ago while attending NYU. Since then they have been merging elements of electronic music with pop sensibilities, gaining them cult status and earning hits like “Dance Yrself Clean” and “All My Friends”.

Both of the aforementioned songs were performed during the encore of LCD Soundsystem’s 16-song setlist from last night’s performance. The band did a nice job of splitting the setlist between their albums, mostly leaning towards their more popular cuts like “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” and “Other Voices”. The career-spanning set doesn’t stray too far from their first set of weekend slots in London minus the Joy Division covers.
