After three years of COVID postponements, the forefathers of emo My Chemical Romance are finally heading out on their long-awaited reunion tour. They kicked things off in Europe back in May but after their long overdue return to Europe the band finally started the North American leg of their tour last night (August 20) at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
Back in 2019, when this tour was first announced, the band was able to get one show on December 20 in Los Angeles. Initially, that LA show was supposed to be the end of the band’s reunion but after tickets sold out within minutes, MCR decided to take the show worldwide and schedule a world tour for 2020. Now that venues are opening back up the “Welcome To The Black Parade” composers are finally feeding their diehard fans with a career-spanning setlist.
My Chemical Romance treated the fans to a grab-bag of hits and deep cuts. They performed songs like “Bury Me in Black” which hadn’t been performed since 2003 and “This is The Best Day Ever” for the first time since 2005. They dedicated their performance of the fiery track “The Ghost Of You” to their producer Doug McKean, who passed away in July of this year. The band did a great job of dividing the setlist between each of their albums, performing songs like “Na Na Na”, a hit from their latest full LP only to go all the way back to their 2004 Reprise debut to perform the lesser-known “Give ‘Em Hell, Kid”.
My Chemical Romance will be going all over North America for this leg of the tour, next they stop in San Antonio for a string of southern/midwest dates before heading to Canada only to continue their trek across the country with a long list of dates in the North.
