Spoon & Interpol Kick Off ‘Lights, Camera, Factions Tour’ In Asbury Park, NJ

Last night (8/25), two of the most critically acclaimed rock bands of the past decade kicked off their highly anticipated tour together in Asbury Park, New Jersey’s Stone Pony Summer Stage. Texas’ minimalist Spoon and the post-punk outfit Interpol are joining forces for a trip across North America in support of their respective 2022 releases. With support from Goon Sax, the two rock legends brought their own takes on modern rock to this outdoor venue deep in New Jersey.

Interpol’s set was mostly composed of songs from their latest release, 2022’s The Other Side of Make-Believe while still striking a balance of new and old. They kicked their set off the same way they kicked off their career, performing “Untitled”, track one from their debut album before going into “Narc” from their sophomore release. After this they bounced around their discography, performing “Fables”, “Something Changed”, and “Toni” from their latest while sprinkling in hits like “Evil” and “Obstacle 1”.

Spoon started their set off in a different way than their touring mates, covering Smog’s “Held” as their opening song for the night, the cover is also the intro to their 2022 album, Lucifer On the Sofa. Later on in the night they also covered John Lennon’s “Isolation” but besides these two exceptions, Spoon split their set up between their storied discography. The band went as far back as their 2001 album, Girls Can Tell with a performance of the heart-wrenching “The Fitted Short”. Spoon also treated fans to new material by performing “The Hardest Cut” and “Wild” off their aforementioned 2022 release.

The Light, Camera, Factions tour has the pair of bands bouncing around North America until mid-September. The next stop is tonight (August 26) in Toronto before they cross back over the border to Portland before traveling across the map to Rhode Island.
