LISTEN: The Vacant Shapes Cut Shoegazy Atmospheric Haze On “Everything You Know”

The Vacant Shapes are a three-piece California-based rock band that combines dynamics with melodic songwriting. Their sound ranges from early 2000’s alt, 60’s garage, and late 80’s post-punk, influenced by bands like Velvet Underground, Pixies, and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Cutting their teeth in the DIY scene, The Vacant Shapes have written and produced all their own releases, started an all-age underground venue for local and touring acts, and have grown a loyal following.

From the shoegazy, delay drenches guitar intro to the atmospheric, unaffected vocals, “Everything You Know” from The Vacant Shapes hits all the turn of the millennium NYC rock and roll sweet spots. Although the melody is catchy enough to carry the song, the Interpol-inspired instrumental climax in the middle is where the song really takes off. “Everything You Know” is the first track from their newest EP (“How Much Time Does It Take To Heal?”) set for release in the Fall.
