Ghost Funk Orchestra Keeps It Cosmic & Swampy On “Why?”

Ghost Funk Orchestra is the brainchild of composer, arranger, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Seth Applebaum. His writing stretches his psyche to explore a terrain in which to capture emotional notes of love going well, love gone sour, and manifesting love songs based on ghostly affairs. While the studio is obviously a wondrous happy place of experimentation and creativity for Applebaum, he’s a band guy too (having actually fronted punk outfit The Mad Doctors). Applebaum has the wherewithal to bring his dreamy material to the 10-piece all-star Ghost Funk Orchestra, leading them to breathe life into this sophisticated body of work that heralds the celebration of a new era for the group.

“Why?”, the latest cosmic funk release from Ghost Funk Orchestra is a thick, swampy groove that’s captivating in its simplicity. If the opening notes don’t pull you in all the way, Christine Chanel’s enchanting vocals emerge to finish the job, bringing depth to the simple melodic phrasing with sophistication and style. Ghost Funk Orchestra’s new album, A New Kind of Love, is set to be released Oct. 28th.

“On the new track ‘Why?’ Ghost Funk Orchestra strips ‘funk’ all the way down to its bare bones. Driven by a simple bassline, a tight drum kit, and a captivating vocal performance from newcomer Christine Chanel, ‘Why?’ tells a tale of unrequited love and the absence of common sense that often accompanies an unrelenting crush,” says Applebaum about his latest creation.
