LISTEN: Cameron Smith Offers Haunting & Sparse Folk On Truthful “Beneath The Wheel”

The past decade Cameron Smith has been playing across the US—especially in his native regions of North/Central Texas—both in his own bands (War Party and Sur Duda), and backing for artists Eric Osbourne and Andy Pickett.

In recent years Cameron has been performing over a hundred live shows as a solo artist, from coffee shops and restaurants to midsize venues, and even busking on the streets of his hometown in Fort Worth, TX, working up an extensive and eclectic songbook of classics, rarities, and originals, picked out fingerstyle on acoustic guitar, accompanied by his harmonica and his voice.

“Beneath the Wheel”, the latest roaming fold release from Smith, is a sparse yet layered arrangement with plenty to get lost in throughout its just over five-minute duration. The subtle ups and downs, a new backup vocal here and there, and intermittent ethereal slide parts come together to create a rich backdrop that still lets Smith’s storytelling shine through.
