LISTEN: Timeless Surf Rock & Healing Everly Harmonies Rise On The Lostines’ “A Tear”

Mixing elements of contemporary psychedelia, surf rock, and a heavy dose of Everly Brothers, The Lostines’ latest single, “A Tear” hits close to home for everyone that’s had to deal with nights alone dealing with “the one that got away”. The candid, straightforward lyrics are brought to life through spot-on harmonies weaved in and out of the entire melody over a band that sounds as if it just got here from the 50’s after plucking sweet gear from each decade along the way.  The Lostines have a new full-length album coming out in 2023, recorded at Mashed Potato and released on Gar Hole Records.

“The feelings being expressed in this song for me are ones of lust, loneliness and confusion. It came to me one night sitting alone in my bedroom, full of the emptiness you feel when you say goodbye to someone that you might not see for a while and that you didn’t want to say goodbye to at all. It flooded out of me easily that night, but later I struggled to tap back into that intensely raw place and finish the song. I sent the unfinished “a tear” to Casey Jane. She also had an unfinished song she had been working on and when I sent it her way we realized her song worked really well and so it became the beginning of ‘a tear,'” says Camille Weatherford.
