Last night (December 7th), self-proclaimed jam band Goose hit the late-night stage as they performed their song “Dripfield” on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The song is the title track to their 2022 album, a 10-song journey through the kaleidoscope approach the band uses while structuring their songs. With the band touring the album, which was released in June of this year, their performance on Fallon comes on the heels of the announcement that the band will be back out on the road starting in January with some festival spots before kicking off their own just announced headlining tour in March. While Goose has been on the scene since 2014, it wasn’t until their 2021 album, Shenanigans Nite Club, that the band gained worldwide attention. The 5-piece specializes in the loose sonic structure that comes with being a jam band. That looseness does not come without discipline as the band is able to toy with the tones expressed in their releases to achieve otherworldly textures. Their latest studio album, Dripfield, is the perfect example of the band’s diversity as they explore their influences and contextualize them through their extended, genre-blending ballads.

With the number of live albums the band has released, it is easy to tell how seasoned Goose is when it comes to bringing their studio recordings to life. While the studio version of their song “Dripfield” is a 7-minute odyssey, the band cut the runtime for their TV performance. The bright colors that highlighted the band act as a fitting backdrop for the psychedelic-tinged tune the band tore through last night. The five-piece makes it look easy as their spiraling arrangements entranced the late-night audience and further emphasized Goose’s pure musicianship.
