LISTEN: Conflict at Serenity Pools Offer Up Dynamic New Wave Pop Structures On “mellow and shiny”

Conflict at Serenity Pools, or CASP for short, is from Venice Beach California, and resides in Los Angeles, with a few collaborators elsewhere. They’ve been described as playful, difficult to pigeonhole, eclectic, and risk-taking. They strive to make music that mixes feelings and genres and pulls you in different directions, with the goal of creating something novel but also familiar.

The new single “mellow and shiny” from Conflict at Serenity Pools is a lo-fi deadpan charmer with a nod to the Talking Heads throughout that gives it a good-natured spark to keep it alluringly humble. The straightforward lyrics offer up small ideas/suggestions that have the potential to have a big impact on someone at just the right moment, creating complimentary dynamics between the feel and message.

“One of the best parts of a partnership or dating someone you really care for, or even just hanging with a good friend, one of life’s essences in close relationships, is being taken care of for a night when you really need it, and so this song is really a nod to that, and a documentation of that need, because sometimes it’s fun to communicate your needs in songs, and it can also remind you that your partner may need this too.”
