Moonlighting as Oliver Ghoul: A self-taught, self-produced, bass-driven groove machine. There’s a good chance that’s not how you’d expect to describe your local hospital’s psychiatrist, but if you live in Montreal, you might be wrong. With his debut release Glue; one-man powerhouse Oliver Gil shows just how ghoulishly funky he can get. Gil admits himself, “I’m a little obsessed with Scooby-Doo, and I knew there had to be a Scooby-Doo-esque aspect to my music.” The meticulous nature of the mix begs to be listened to on headphones to fully take in what one can only imagine many late nights hunched in front of the computer trying to unmask this sultry spook show. We’ll be waiting to see what’s next for Oliver Ghoul.

“It’s a Scooby-Doo take on a love song. I always had this image of a very psychedelic, ‘60s cartoon murder mystery/love affair. I wanted it to be about my wife, but tongue in cheek. A love song, but not a cheesy love song. It’s a creepy ode to relationships — it’s me writing a love song while also making it funny so as not to cringe,” says Ghoul.

“The colors, the music, the humor, the occult elements — that mix is so warm, just for me, it’s sheer love. My music is very effect-heavy, and the effects I go after recreate the haunted house psychedelic experience.”
