LISTEN: On “Buddy,” Dylan Earl Keeps The Swampy Baritone In Country Music

Dylan Earl is a man shaped by the land around him. Originally from Lake Charles, Louisiana but “naturalized by the Natural State” as a teenager, Dylan (or “Dearl” as he’s come to be known) has been active in the Arkansas underground country scene for over a decade, first as a founding member of the alt-country band Swampbird and then as a solo performer and songwriter. Alongside his friends and contemporaries Willi Carlisle and Nick Shoulders, Dylan has been heavily involved in carving out space for socially conscious Country Music in the Mid-south region and beyond.

“Buddy” is an invitation. It’s an invitation to get in the truck, both physically and proverbially. I’m away from my home over half the year and I have spent so many dadgum miles in “the truck” where so many unspoken experiences happen. It’s an attempt to speak experientially about times I normally find mundane in the day-to-day grind on tour,” says Earl.
