Punk’s newest golden children are back out on the road to stir up more chaotic performances. Viagra Boys are coming off of one hell of a 2022 and just as the new year was starting to feel less new, Sweden’s punks are back to keep things fresh. Last night (February 13), Viagra Boys kicked off the newest chapter of their Cave World tour at the 9:30 club in Washington D.C. This leg of the tour follows the release of the deluxe version of Viagra Boys celebrated 2022 album Cave World. The deluxe version added four more songs to the album’s tracklist and even more opportunity for Viagra Boys to beef up their setlist for these upcoming shows.
The success Viagra Boys experienced in 2022 felt like a long time coming. Since they formed in 2015, Viagra Boys have been releasing some of the most groundbreaking sounds the genre of punk has heard in recent memory. Their debut EP landed in 2016 and since then the band has been slowly building a fanbase of frantic punks who find solace in distortion and hectic rhythms. After the release of Cave World last year, the band has performed on late night shows and on stages all over the world, so they are primed for these upcoming gigs.
Last night’s setlist is exactly what you expected, a whole lot of Cave World tracks with some classics from their catalog thrown in there. Hits like “Punk Rock Loser” and “Troglodyte” from their latest made the cut along with “It Ain’t Enough” being the only song from the freshly-released extended tracklist to be performed. The band reached all the way back to their aforementioned debut EP to pull out the the unforgettably lewd “Liquids”.
Viagra Boys will be traveling across North America until early March. Their next show goes down on February 14 in Philadelphia then the band will be hitting cities like Detroit, Vancouver, and Seattle.
