You’ll be immediately struck by two things when listening to “I Can Only Love You in a Song”, the new single from Kristopher James. First and foremost is his unbelievable vocal control. He jumps so seamlessly in and out of a smooth and natural falsetto it’s hard to register how much work that can take as a vocalist. Once you’re past that, dig into the brilliance of the track’s instrumentation and production. It would be easy to imagine a typical soul outfit backing his voice and songwriting, but the choice of long sharp string playing led harmonically by warm electric piano, lightly plucked harp and smooth groove-driven bass playing really accents the themes within the track. We’ll look forward to what the rest of this album has in store when it’s ready for release.
“There are songs that come to you, so fast and so ready to be sung – that it takes everything to keep up with the creating …There are others that sit with you for years, and mature like a good wine … ‘I Can Only Love You in a Song” is just that kind of song. One that has been readying itself for years, until she was just right,” says James.
