Last night (February 21), none other than the legendary Pixies kicked off the European leg of their extensive 2023 tour. The band started their trot around the world in Stockholm, Sweden at the 1,600-capacity venue Cirkus. This current run of shows is in support of the band’s 2022 album, Doggerel, and will have the band traveling around the globe for a good half of the year.

With the band’s storied career dating back to the late 80s, the Pixies had a long list of classics to choose from. The setlist last night spanned 33 songs and had the band bouncing between decades in order to encompass their historic discography. They kicked things off with “Cactus” from their 1988 LP, Surfer Rosa, Pixies would return to this album to perform tracks like “Brick Is Red” and the fan-favorite “Where Is My Mind?”. The band reached back even further, pulling out songs like “Caribou” and “Ed Is Dead” from their ‘87 debut, Come On Pilgrim. The majority of the setlist was comprised of songs from Pixies’ 2022 LP and their opus, 1989’s Doolittle. For fans of the band’s seminal work, 10 of the 15 songs from Doolittle were performed including “Wave of Mutilation” twice, the second performance being a “U.K. Surf version” according to Setlist.fm. Pixies also ventured outside of their discography to cover songs like “Head On” by The Jesus and Mary Chain and “Winterling” by Neil Young.

All the way up until late June, Pixies will be traversing the road and hitting major cities across the world. They’ll be performing in places like Germany, Spain, and France until early May when they head over for a string of shows in the states.
