It was merely days ago that the animated band Gorillaz released their conceptually ambitious LP Cracker Island into the world. Through its lush soundscapes and unique approach to glittery pop tunes, the band’s latest album kept long-term fans happy while still allowing Gorillaz to explore new depths of their creativity. Only one weekend removed from the release of Cracker Island, Gorillaz has added three new songs to the tracklist with their freshly released deluxe version of the LP (out today, February 27).
The revised version of the tracklist features three unheard songs from the band that feature the likes of De La Soul, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, and MC Bin Laden. The first addition to the album comes in the form of “Captain Chicken” featuring Del Tha Funky Homosapien, it’s a funky track driven by Del’s signature cosmic flows and electric delivery. The MC Bin Laden-assisted track, “Controllah” sounds straight from the band’s 2017 LP Humanz as its bouncy arrangement provides the perfect canvas for Laden to spit over. The third new song added brings back the familiar faces of De La Soul along with Dawn Penn. “Crocadillaz” sees the collaborative history of De La Soul and the Gorillaz grow as they rap over the whispering instrumental that is filled with electronic twists and turns as it thrives in its unpredictability. The deluxe version also features two remixes from the original release, a stripped-down version of “Silent Running” and the up-tempo version of “New Gold” courtesy of Dom Dolla that was released a few months prior to Cracker Island.
Along with the new songs, Gorillaz has also announced a live listening event for Cracker Island. The event will take place on Youtube this Wednesday (February March 1) at 12 P.M. EST. You can check that out below.
