The first thing you’ll notice about “On a Beach” is Hayden’s smooth nonchalant baritone voice. This is made more impressive once you realize you’ve been watching Steve Buscemi, but he’s just a nice bonus in an immersive video to an infectious song. Hayden and Feist sing back and forth over a simple and still satisfying instrumentation that is predominantly bass, claps, and an almost arpeggiated synth. The conceptual idea behind the song is daydreaming or hypnotism of better things than real life. The song stands up on its own but paired with the video it gives a fully thought-out artistic experience.
