Today (March 23), the latest edition of HBO’s Music Box series was announced and will focus on the twangy history of Jason Isbell. “Jason Isbell: Running With Our Eyes Closed” is set to hit the streaming service on April 7 and will feature a breakdown of key moments in Isbell’s career like his creative process, his working relationship with his equally accomplished wife Amanda Shires, and go behind-the-scenes of the recording of his 2020 album Reunions with his band The 400 Unit. The documentary will detail Isbell’s career so far and explore the artist’s days in the Drive-By Truckers, his addiction issues, and how his working relationship with his wife can be a tough balancing act. “Running With Our Eyes Closed” was directed by Same Jones, produced by Bill Simmons, and executively produced by Mark and Jay Duplass. The documentary will feature interviews with some of Isbell’s closest collaborators including Chad Gamble, Sadler Vaden, Jimbo Hart, Derry DeBorja, and Patterson Hood.
Along with the documentary, 2023 will also bring us the latest album from Isbell and the 400 Unit. Their new album, Weathervanes is set to release on June 9 and follows up their 2021 album, Georgia Blue.
