Last night (April 10), M83 brought their spectacle of a new album to life as they kicked off their latest stint on the road at The Van Buren in Phoenix, Arizona (their first show since 2016). The band is set to traverse North America over the next few months to support their latest release, Fantasy. The band centered around the musicianship and songwriting of Anthony Gonzalez is less than a month removed from the release of the latest addition to their wonderfully expansive discography. In classic M83 fashion, they look further ahead than most to expand the worlds built on their latest release with a setlist that attempts to balance the new with the old.

The first show of the Fantasy 2023 tour had M83 primarily focusing on their new music. According to Setlist.fm, the band performed 10 out of the 13 songs from Fantasy with the exception of “Radar, Far, Gone”, “Deceiver”, and the Kaela-assisted “Kool Nuit”. While it is no shock the three songs left out of the live performance were slow burners, the band reached into their bag of smash hits to fill in the rest of the set. The band looked to their critically acclaimed Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming LP for hits like “Midnight City’ and “My Tears Are Becoming a Sea”. The rest of the setlist had M83 bouncing around their colorful discography, you can check out the full setlist below.

Now that their trip to The Van Buren in the Arizona heat is behind them, M83 forges forward on their tour of North America. Their next stop lands them in Albuquerque, New Mexico before heading down to Texas to hit almost every major city in the lone star state.
