LISTEN: Mike Frazier Echoes ‘Harvest’ Era Neil Young On Emotive ‘Burning Something Sweet’

From the opening moments of “Burning Something Sweet” you’ll no doubt hear an obvious parallel to Neil Young, but as it comes into its own, singer-songwriter Mike Frazier brings us something drawing from a bit deeper of a well. The purely live recording feels so natural. His band feels like they’re at that perfect space of rehearsing and ready to add some playful inflections to keep it from becoming an overly rigid country tune. Frazier has a way of shifting between a higher, more emotive vocal style and a conversational delivery that creates dynamics within the lyrics themselves.

From 4/7 until the album is released on 4/28 Frazier is taking donations on his bandcamp for Last Prisoner Project. LPP is a national, nonpartisan non-profit organization dedicated to cannabis criminal justice reform.
