For the first time in nearly a decade, New York City’s The Walkmen performed live on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Last night (4/18), the band made their triumphant return to performing but dusting off their 2004 hit, “The Rat” from their critically acclaimed Bows + Arrows LP. The band’s last public performance dates back to 2014 when they performed in New Orleans, now the band is gearing up for a massive reunion tour and looked to kick things off on a high note with their electrifying performance on the late-night show.
Host Stephen Colbert seemed just as excited as us that the middle child of the early 2000s NYC indie scene is finally back. The Walkmen did not waste their time in the spotlight, they approached their performance as another day in the office with the band sounding as energetic as they did when we were first introduced to their fast-paced playing. Their confidence shined as they used last night’s performance of “The Rat” as a precursor of what is to come.
This all comes only days before The Walkmen are set to take on a massive reunion tour that will have them traversing the globe. They’ll kick things off this Saturday (April 22) in Westerly, Rhode Island before the band heads back to where it all started with five sold-out shows at New York City’s Webster Hall. The band will then bounce around to cities like Atlanta and Salt Lake City until they head overseas for a string of late summer European dates.
