SONG PREMIERE: BabyJake Summons Classic Power Ballad On Raspy “Gambler’s Prayer”

With a raspy voice that sounds like a dead ringer for a classic 70s long-haired two-guitar-fronted bad, BabyJake sounds more “revered” than his name might suggest. While bands like Humble Pie, Black Crowes, and Faces might come to mind, when listening to this upstart sing; there is still a modern and versatile flair to his artisty.

Chosen as a VEVO DSCVR artist and frequent collaborator with artists such as 24kgldn to Dillon Francis, Nashville-based singer-songwriter BabyJake has made an indelible mark on the modern music landscape since his debut in 2019 with “Cigarettes on Patios” (Certified Gold, 125M+ streams across DSPs).

Glide is premiering the throwback number “Gambler’s Prayer,” which soaks in a dive bar aura of hard luck and melancholy attachment (or detachment). Check out this winner below…

“I aint really sure what ‘Gambler’s Prayer’ is about in totality…Part of the song is me speaking in third person, part of it isn’t. Most of the song is actually me talking to myself and a lot of the time that may not seem to be the case. I guess it’s really just a version of a song in which I keep calling myself out on my own bullshit,” says BabyJake

“The first line is ‘Everybody has their weakness, for me and mine its cash in hand,’ and really, that’s me talking about being broke & spending all the money I once had…The hook on the other hand is purely up for interpretation. To me, it was yet again a message to myself ‘Stop crying ya fucking baby!! Let it bleed, let the blood run out,’ yanno? Not even in a suicidal sense…just in a sense of ‘Well, I’m broke & busted… here ain’t much else I can do but run head on & figure this shit out…The bullets will sting but I’ll get through it hopefully.’ The song is quite emotional for me… Shit don’t go the way ya always want it to, that’s the punch line.”
