For their first show since 2019, Death Grips pulled out all the stops they have in their arsenal of high-grade industrial hip-hop. The mysterious trio has been releasing some of the most innovative rap in years and has gained a cult following through their creative album releases and, more so than anything else, their unique brand of abrasive instrumentals that cradle the screeching vocals. Death Grips is bringing said fanbase a taste of their world on this current tour which kicked off last night (May 4) at Revolution Hall in Portland. The four-year gap between their live performances seems to have had no effect on Death Grips as they pieced together a career-spanning tracklist for their North American tour.
Death Grips performed a total of 29 songs last night in Portland as fans seemed delighted that the trio didn’t leave any stone in their discography unturned. Considering the gap in their touring, the setlist was filled with songs that the trio hadn’t performed in a while. Tracks like “Lock Your Doors”, “Have A Sad Cum BB”, and “BB Poison” hadn’t been performed since 2017 while a song like “Blackjack” hadn’t seen the light of day since 2013. Death Grips primarily focused on their 2012 classic The Money Store, pulling songs like the aforementioned “Blackjack” along with “Get Got”, “Hacker”, and “The Fever (Aye Aye)”. The rest of the night was split up between their expansive discography including songs like “Guillotine” and “Spread Eagle Cross The Block” from their elusive 2011 mixtape Exmilitary. You can check out the full setlist below.
Death Grips is looking at a busy tour schedule for the rest of 2023. The trio is now heading over to Vancouver for a show before traversing back to the States for a performance in Seattle. The trio will be hitting cities across the country like Phoenix, Kansas City, and Chicago. Check out the full list of dates below and see footage from last night’s performance in Portland.
