LISTEN: Buck St. Thomas Holds Ears Via Intense Turns On Grandaddy Tinged “Quiet Thrills”

“Quiet Thrills” is an apt title for Buck St. Thomas’ new roaming indie-fueled single. Opening with a simple, buzzy, and slightly dissonant guitar line reminiscent of early Modest Mouse and landing right into a quiet and emotive vocal delivery that’s almost Elliot Smith-esque. As the song moves on though it’s easy to hear that Thomas has created a sound that is authentically his. As it enters the second section/chorus of the song he sings an ascending tension-building melody that slightly mirrors the intro and verse guitar part while the accompaniment holds a steady progression with less movement. The whole song musically and dynamically is obviously well thought out and composed and will appeal to fans of Grandaddy.

“Quiet Thrills is about the nuances of different personalities in relationships and how they intersect with situations throughout life. The verse guitar riff started as an idea for a short film score but quickly evolved into a proper song and It was written and produced pretty slowly over the course of about six months,” says St. Thomas.
