On their new single, Forager will hit you with some groove-heavy soul pop on “Fuji or a Trek”, but there’s definitely more to this band than a simple genre label. The singer is naturally a gorgeous alto, but playfully and stylistically can hit all kinds of higher notes throughout the infectious melodic movement. The real deep impression is left at just under a minute in when the band drops tightly into a crunchy downtempo feel that is sure to bring out your stank face. The tune jumps back up and down once more each before ending on a killer instrumental that will definitely leave you wondering where Forager came from and how you’ve never heard from them.
“We love all the ways that Fuji highlights the contrast. The groove that swerves between upbeat drum and bass, and heavy funk is an obvious example. But it’s deeper than that—the song was born from an experience our guitar player, Jack, had on his 26th birthday. He biked all around Brooklyn and eventually ran into his former high school teacher at the club by coincidence. He didn’t expect to feel exhausted like he couldn’t keep up with the events of the day,” says the band.
