Foo Fighters Launch Josh Freese Era at Bank of New Hampshire Pavillion (RECAP)

Foo Fighters are no stranger to the road, they have been one of the most consistent touring acts of the past generation. Last night (May 24), the band hit the stage at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion to kick off the latest chapter of their touring history and this chapter might be one of the more important moments for the band. The legendary drummer and long-time Foo Fighter Taylor Hawkins unexpectedly passed just over a year ago to the day, leaving a hole in not only his band’s lineup but the genre of rock as a whole. Last week, just days before their return to the stage, the band took to the internet to live stream some rehearsals and announce that the prolific Josh Freese will be drumming for the band on this current run of shows which will have the band traversing the globe from Colorado to Abu Dhabi.

For their first show of the tour, Foo Fighters put together a career-spanning setlist that evoked a rainbow of emotions for fans. The band is prepping the release of But Here We Are their latest studio album which is set to be released on June 2. The band performed singles like “Rescued”, “Under You”, and the unreleased “Nothing At All” track which is featured on the album’s tracklist. It wouldn’t be a Foo Fighters show without hearing hits “My Hero” and “Everlong”, both of which made the cut in New Hampshire last night, but this band is anything but predictable. Frontman Dave Grohl welcomed his daughter on stage for a duet of “Shame Shame” right before a vulnerable performance of the 2005 cut “Cold Day In The Sun” which was dedicated to Taylor Hawkins and brought Grohl to tears during the performance. This also marks the first time that song had been performed since 2018 and this time around Grohl stood in an acoustic solo for the moving track. You can check out the full 21-song setlist below.

Foo Fighters started off their 2023 season of touring on a high note and their schedule shows no signs of slowing down. The band has the Boston Calling Festival this weekend before they head to Columbus, Ohio for a solo gig. The band will then head overseas for a few shows before returning to North America to hit cities like Spokane, San Francisco, and Louisville.
