Those spring showers have been coming down hard over here on the east coast of the States. After hunkering down from thrashing winds and window-shaking rain, shifting through the new releases for this week is exactly what the weatherman ordered. We have a good one for you this week folks. With the first half of 2023 behind us and the “Best Music of The Year (So Far)” lists are beginning to flood our timelines. Along with reminiscing about the first time you heard your favorite album of 2023, the third week of June promises a healthy collection of fresh tracks to usher in your weekend.

Check out Glide’s picks for the best new music of the week below;

Sparklehorse – “Evening Star Supercharger”

Bird Machine

The wonderfully whimsical discography of Mark Linkous’ Sparklehorse is getting a new addition. Bird Machine is the band’s first full-length since 2010 and first posthumous album since Linkous, unfortunately, passed that same year. The album is set to be released on September 8 via Anti and the single that tagged along with the announcement is a gentle greeting from Linkous. “Evening Star Supercharger ” is a gentle ballad that leans on acoustic strumming for its sonic backbone, allowing Linkous’s crooning to guide you through the heartfelt lyrics.

Les Imprimés – “Love & Flowers”

Rêverie

Every single that is gifted to us from Les Imprimés’ upcoming Big Crown Records debut builds on the last, shaping a level of anticipation usually reserved for our favorite artists of all time. Les Imprimés might be just that, with his Rêverie LP set to be released on August 11, every single has been a masterful exploration into classic soul with modern tropes. “Love & Flowers” is our latest look into the album and is as gently rhythmic as its fellow singles. The song boasts a melodic soul that has the presence of a cloud, softly rolling through your headphones with its dusty bassline.

Suki Waterhouse & Belle and Sebastian – “Every Day’s A Lesson in Humility”

Single

From the vaults of Sub Pop Records’ Singles Club comes the collaboration dreams are made of. Suki Waterhouse teams up with Belle and Sebastian for “Every Day’s A Lesson in Humility”, the soft rocking single that follows Suki Waterhouse’s debut from last year. Their signature vocal delivery finds solace over a cutesy instrumental that dances along with carefree gusto. The new single also follows Suki Waterhouse’s “To Love” single from earlier this year.

Ovrkast. – “Shutup!”

Single

After releasing one of his best songs earlier this year in the form of his “Tbh!” single, producer/rapper Ovrkast adds a hint of aggression to his latest release. “Shutup!” marks Ovrkast’s second single of 2023 and continues to expand on the long list of expressive minimalism that has become a signature for the artist. “Shutup!” features a lively flow from Ovrkast that delivers a catchy flow over a rolling piano melody.

Butcher Brown – “I Can Say To You” (Feat. Vanisha Gould)

Solar Music

The cosmic jazz of Butcher Brown is following up an impressive 2022 with a fresh collection of tracks. Solar Music is set to be released on October 6 via Concord Jazz and its lead single continues to build the band’s resume of chemistry with any artist they step into the studio with. Vanisha Gould’s velvet vocals glide you through a textured instrumental and, along with the help of Butcher Brown’s resident vocalist, inject a little hope into your day.

Devendra Banhart – “Twin”

Flying Wig

The legendary discography of Devendra Banhart is getting a little bit bigger in a few months, and its lead single constructs a world of ambient guitars and hushed falsettos. “Twin” is our first look into Flying Wig, the latest full-length from Banhart is set to arrive on September 22 via Mexican Summer. The single is driven by a lush arrangement that is the perfect fit for Banhart’s relaxed vocals, although the poetry he penned for the track contradicts this by adding a sense of urgency to the track.

The Hives – “Countdown to Shutdown”

The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons

For their first album in over a decade, The Hives are holding nothing back. The Death of Randy Fitzsimmons is set to be released on August 11 and its latest single is screaming to be put on repeat for the remainder of your weekend. “Countdown to Shutdown” features an infectious energy that can only be executed by The Hives’ unique brand of punk, soaring distortion is greeted with an easily recitable hook to create a track that seems hellbent on being one of the best songs from the new album.

Sigur Rós – “Skel”

ÁTTA

For fans of Sigur Rós, the past 24 hours have been a whirlwind. The band decided to announce their newest LP only one day before its release, ÁTTA is now out in full for your listening pleasure. The band leans on ambiance for the driving force of these songs with “Skel” being noticeably more lush than the rest. The song features droning synths that lay the groundwork for the softly-spoken melody, creating a texture that is only comparable to a bite of marshmallow.

Deer Tick – “My Ship”

Emotional Contracts

It’s hard to believe the day has finally arrived for the new Deer Tick album to enter the world. Emotional Contracts is out today via ATO Records and continues to build on the twangy legacy of the band. “My Ship” is a stand-out ballad that features carefully plucked guitar strings that morph into sliding electric rhythms, all to host an emotional journey of lyrics that touch on longing and disappointment.

Killer Mike – “Down By Law” (Feat. CeeLo Green)

MICHAEL

Killer Mike has finally descended from his throne to give us his latest solo album, and it is everything we could hope for and more. MICHAEL is the introspective victory lap from an artist who has nothing to prove but so much to say. “Down By Law” is the CeeLo Green-assisted intro to the album, a victorious track with blaring horn loops that allow Killer Mike to let out everything he has been holding back.

Home Is Where – “Lily Pad Pupils”

The Whaler

Despite this being their proper debut album, the music of Home Is Where already sounds so familiar and comforting. The Whaler, out today, follows up a whole lot of hype and delivers on our wildest fantasies of what the band could become. Their unique take on pop-punk is heavy and heartfelt, allowing for the perfect balance of neck-breaking tempos and folk-inspired balladry. “Lily Pad Pubils” stands out on the album due to its masterful musicianship and passionate vocals, all delivered with the perfect amount of twang and creating a juxtaposition that sums up the band perfectly.
