Al Holliday Brings Vintage St. Louis Flavored Soul On “Shine A Lil’ Lovin”

Al Holliday and his band bring us their vintage rock-infused St. Louis soul on “Shine a Lil’ Lovin’.” The song lands right off the bat in tru Leon Russel form with a piano drag intro straight down to a killer back beat groove. The horn composition is classy and disciplined, adding a perfect harmonic layer to the song while still pushing through the mix at particular moments for a little attitude. Holliday’s voice is powerful enough to blast through a wide baritone range, but when he pushes it there’s a wonderfully unique gravel to his voice that is immediately enthralling. The whole band’s performance is tight and likely put on one hell of a live show.
