Vincent HL brings out a new side of self-produced lofi magic on “Pile of Dirt.” The distinctively jangly guitars that are a staple of the slacker indie sound these days will hit you first on this track, but as it moves along it’s easy to see that there’s something more unique and memorable is Vincent’s approach musically. The instrumental sections and riff work create a sort of stoner country twang while the rhythms and dynamics feel more informed by a heavier sludgier songwriter. The understated and seemingly unconcerned vocal delivery really ties this all together to make a great start to his new album “Golden Sun.”
