Alongside their GRAMMY nomination, Moonchild has charted on Billboard’s genre charts and been named Soul Act of the Year by Jazz FM. They have collaborated and toured with highly respected names from across music, including Kamasi Washington, Stevie Wonder, The Internet, Jill Scott, and built up a host of iconic supporters from Robert Glasper (who has collaborated with Amber on his own projects) and Laura Mvula to James Poyser, Jazzy Jeff, 9th Wonder and Tyler, The Creator.
Syncopated charmingly, delivering to us jazz fusion at its best, Moonchild is back with an acoustic rendition of the 2014 release, “The Truth ‘. Amber Navran’s vocals delicately swirl, wound with effortless feel; she delivers magnificence in form, supported by detailed melodious color and full-fledged low-end cushion.
Getting to reimagine ‘The Truth’ was such a treat. The album version is from ‘Please Rewind’ which came out way back in 2014 and features heavy-hitting production. For the acoustic version, I knew we would want to strip it down and find something new to go under this beautiful song that Amber and Andris wrote. I was thinking back to our more recent Tiny Desk performance and made a decision to use small-sounding instruments, like a toy piano, glockenspiel, clarinet & flute, whistling & ukulele, and the pocket piano synth. I wanted the whole thing to sound miniature, like a model version of the song you could build and put in a bottle,” says Max Bryk.
