Sparks Bring Wide-Ranging & Eclectic Set to Austin, TX (PHOTOS)

Sparks may lay claim to the most extreme contrast between longevity and name recognition. A little-known band outside of music aficionados, the California duo is currently touring behind their 25th studio album in their fifty-second year in existence as a band. That tour brought them to Austin on Thursday, July 13th, for an eclectic mix of songs from their catalog as well as some cuts from their latest, The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte. Behind a capable backing band, brothers Ron and Russell Mael played off each other magically – Russell dancing around the stage like Mick Jagger, while Ron sat stoic at his keyboard, looking like a cross between Vincent Price and John Waters.
