Sleepy Jean Serves Up Spaghetti Western Charmer “Six Feet Deep (with love)”

Sleepy Jean is the moniker/alter-ego of singer-songwriter Katey Gatta. Recorded over the course of a year with engineer/producer Dajaun Martineau (Kathleen Edwards, Lydia Ainsworth, Rob Moir), Shoot Me in a Dream was inspired by the alt-country, surf rock, and pop standards of the 1960s. Featuring horn performances from Bryden Baird (Bahamas, Feist) and additional mixes from Kenneth Roy Meehan (Daniel Romano, Kacy & Clayton, Julianna Riolino), the 11-song effort stretches across space, time and genre to nod at the bygone eras that inspired its’ creation.

Conjuring up elements of Nancy Sinatra and your favorite Tarantino flick, Sleepy Jean delivers a driving, lushly arranged throwback track titled “Six Feet Deep (with love)” that still brings plenty of fresh ideas to the table. Dedication to the craft is evident in the song’s energetic and tight performance, which works to support the harrowing story lurking beneath. Sleepy Jean released her debut full-length effort, Shoot Me in a Dream, in July 2023.

This spaghetti western-style murder ballad is an inadvertent response to Tom Jones’ 1970 hit, I (Who Have Nothing) – we wanted to write a song that details what might happen if a woman realizes she’s being stalked. Bryden Baird (Feist, Bahamas) brought it home with his triumphant trumpet solo.
