Karma Fête is a collaborative project between singer Kat Karasi and keyboardist/producer Zach Bain-Selbo, aka Blue Dreams, founded in August 2022. Melting synths and bright ethereal vocals tie together with the roots of hip hop, disco grooves, and experimental neo-Soul. Accompanied by Marcos Rios (Guitar), Dolan Heard (Drums), Jazmine Stubbs (Vocals) and Eric Novak (Bass, Synth), Karma Fête explores the connection between self-love and vulnerability. Sonically, the new Chicago-based project has been compared to Little Dragon, Groove Theory, and FKA Twigs.

Today Glide is offering an exclusive premiere of their new tune “Hi-Def Sutra,” a slick and soulful work of slowburning electro-funk brimming with sultry vocals and harmonies alongside a sound that melts trip-hop, R&B and dance music. The song works its way through a melange of sounds and styles, starting out slow and atmospheric before gradually building into a thick beat that finally cascades into a burst of saxophone vibrancy. If this song is any indication, Karma Fête is a band to watch.

Kat Karasi and Zach Bain-Selbo describe the inspiration and process behind the song:

“‘Hi-Def Sutra’ is our first release that really utilizes Karma Fête in the production of the tune. Zach made a preliminary version with Kat and our additional vocalist Jazmine Stubbs aka JazStarr, and later overdubbed Marcos Rios on guitar and Eric Novak on baritone sax. This song was inspired by the disco sounds of Chaka Khan, Donna Summers, and Todd Terje, and it was originally titled ‘Discofunk’ since we channeled those disco and funk sounds to create a song about bringing out the sexy side of self-confidence shamelessly.”
