The weekend of 2023’s Power Trip has finally come to a close and left a trail of heavy guitar riffs and legendary performances. The three-day festival hosted in Indio, California saw iconic bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest take the stage as each night brought in two bands from the history books of hard rock. Sunday (October 8) was the last night of Power Trip with Tool and Metallica taking on the headlining duties for day/night three.
Tool pieced together a honed setlist that took fans through their colorful discography. The band kicked things off with two selections from their 10,000 Days LP by pulling out tracks like “Jambi” and “The Pot”, they would revisit the album later on in the set with a performance of “Rosetta Stoned”. They focused on their classic 1996 release Ænima with performances of “Stinkfist” and “Pushit” from the LP. Their twelve-song setlist had the band touching on different eras from their career, playing songs like “The Grudge” from Lateralus and “Swamp Song” from their unforgettable 1993 debut Undertow.
Metallica has been on their M72 world tour for some months now and their setlist shows a veteran band getting back in the grooves of touring. Their setlist had something for every kind of Metallica band as the band delivered an unforgettable performance. They kicked things off with “Whiplash” before launching into tracks like “Creeping Death” and “For Whom The Bell Tolls”. The band spread the love to the different eras of their career, performing at least one song from albums like Reload and …And Justice For All with a particular focus on their iconic self-titled LP and their latest release 72 Seasons.
