Minor Threat Releasing ‘Out of Step Outtakes’ December 1

When Minor Threat first released their now iconic and landscape-changing album Out of Step back in 1983, it was just a punk album from a booming scene. Forty years later, those nine songs continue to shape generations of punk-influenced kids looking for an outlet. Their youthful energy captured an era of the genre that has yet to be duplicated with Minor Threat accidentally positioning themselves as the forefathers of 80’s punk. To celebrate four decades of thrashing melodies and hectic arrangments, frontman Ian MacKaye and Don Zientara dusted off some forgotten-about demos from their iconic Out of Step sessions. The new 7” will feature reworkings and demos of some of the most beloved tracks from Minor Threat’s debut album.

Set to be released on December 1, Out of Step Outtakes will feature an instrumental titled “Addams Family”, which would be used as the blueprint for “Cashing In”, along with brand new versions of “Filler” and “In My Eyes” from their equally-iconic first two seven inches. These forgotten takes at dormant for 35 years until MacKaye and Zientara rediscovered these original tapes back in 2021. The duo got to work on mixing/mastering these tapes and rounded out the instrumental “Addams Family” as a celebration of forty years of Minor Threat. Out of Step Outtakes will be released on MacKaye’s own Dischord Records.
