It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving is already over and we’re that much closer to a new year. 2023 has provided us with jaw-dropping releases from some of the biggest names and introduced us to the future of music through stunning debuts. A thick frost has dusted our front lawns as the temperatures are finally dropping enough that going outside feels like a chore. Thankfully, we have a list of fantastic new releases to shift through by the fire.

Check out Glide’s picks for the week’s best new music below.

Guided By Voices – “We’re Going The Wrong Way In”

Nowhere To Go But Up

The highly anticipated new LP from the legendary Guided By Voices is finally here, and it is everything we hoped. Heavy guitar riffs line the heartfelt vocals for 11 tracks of pure rock bliss as the prolific band shows no signs of slowing down. “We’re Going The Wrong Way In” is an early favorite with soaring vocals and crunchy textures for every guitar riff enthusiast.

Joe Jackson – “Never So Nice In The Morning”

Mr. Joe Jackson presents Max Champion in ‘What A Racket!”

Just in time for the cold weather comes the mystical music of Joe Jackson as the artist puts his twist on some classic Max Champion tunes. The orchestral arrangements sound larger-than-life as Jackson croons over high-flying strings and thumping pianos. “Never So Nice In The Morning” is a relatable and charming track bursting with personality and Jackson’s signature infectious energy.

Gram Parsons & The Fallen Angels – “Love Hurts”

The Last Roundup: Live From Bijou Cafe in Philadelphia, March 1973

The story of this Gram Parsons’ performance is the stuff of legend. While on tour to promote his first album, Parsons pieced together his now iconic band for a performance in the city of brotherly love. This show was recorded and purchased by Amoeba Records forty years after its initial recording, it was then lost for another decade until the legendary record shop rediscovered it during a relocation. The Last Roundup marks Parsons’ first solo release in over forty years and it is worth every bit of waiting. Parsons’ voice penetrates the dusty recordings for a live album that embodies Gram Parsons and every nuance of his artistry.

Busta Rhymes – “Tings”

Blockbusta

Busta Rhymes has been one of the most consistently entertaining figures in hip-hop and his latest release looks to cement that legacy. Blockbusta is an explosive LP lined with great guest features and Busta’s undeniably original style. “Tings” is the Pharrell Willams produced stand-out that has Busta navigating an island-style instrumental with his nimble delivery.

Dead Moon – “Down the Road”

Going South

Originally recorded as the band traversed their first tour of New Zealand, Dead Moon has gifted us with a hint of the chaos those shows must’ve been. Going South is the new live album from the punk legends that is brimming with intense vocals and thrashing arrangements that evoke the feeling of a mosh pit no matter where you are. “Down the Road” is an early favorite as the searing guitar riffs and blistering vocals combine for a controlled chaos like no other.

Björk & ROSALÍA – “Oral”

Single

This is a collaboration none of us would’ve dreamed of but the results are magnificently mesmerizing. Björk and ROSALÍA team up on “Oral” for a stunning duet to bring awareness to the intensive salmon farming happening in Iceland. The track was originally written by Björk back in the late nineties and has been brought to life by a beautiful arrangement along with ROOSALÍA’s angelic vocals.

Sleaford Mods – “West End Girls”

West End Girls – EP

After Sleaford Mods got the approval of Pet Shop Boys to cover the band’s iconic “West End Girls” single, we had no idea what to expect. What we received is better than anything we could’ve imagined as Sleaford Mods added their unique style to the memorable track. The vocals are hauntingly beautiful as the instrumental features neck-breaking drum patterns that get interrupted by a welcomed trumpet melody. All profits from the track will go to Shelter, a UK homeless charity.

Office Dog – “In the Red”

Spiel

It is rare when a debut album has this much anticipation around it but Office Dog is a rare band. The trio have seemingly mastered their unique style and we will get to hear it in full on Speil, which is set to be released on January 26. “In The Red ” is our latest single and it features warping guitar tones that intertwine with the heartfelt vocals for one more reason to be very excited for Office Dog’s debut album.

Eyedress – “Sadie Hawkins Prom”

Single

One of the hardest-working and most original artists to emerge in recent memory, Eyedress is in a league of their own. Following a string of impressive singles, “Sadie Hawkins Prom” might be one of his best this year. Dark vocals are greeted with stadium-sized guitar riffs for an unforgettable single. If you don’t know Eyedress, you’ll be familiar quickly as his star continues to rise.

The World of Birds – “Notting Hill”

Single

Don’t let the latest single from the refreshing trio The World of Birds fall off your radar, it might be the best new song of the week. “Notting Hill” is a psychedelic-lined ballad that features beautiful vocals that glide over simple acoustics. This is our first time coming across The World of Birds, and we are instant fans.
