The legend of Dave Grohl’s utterly epic instrumental piece “Play” just got some new lure added to it. As part of the annual Warren Haynes Benefit Concert and album, Grohl performed the monstrous 23-minute epic and even extended it to a demanding 36 minutes. Grohl originally played all the instruments on the original but on this live version, he is joined by Greg Kurstin (keys), guitarists Jason Falkner, Alain Johannes, and Barrett Jones, Chris Chaney (bass), and Drew Hester (percussion). It is the first time “Play” has ever been performed live.
This version of “Play” will be featured on The Benefit Concert, Vol. 20 which was recorded during the 30th annual Christmas concert. The proceeds will benefit Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity and will be available on December 8. Pre-orders are available here.
