Today (January 16), the Los Angeles-based folk-rock sensation Gold Star released a hypnotic single with flashes of nostalgia and all the charm of a modern troubadour. “Wild Boys” is lined with just enough twang to keep his psychedelic vocals anchored to earth, all backed by a warping arrangement bursting with colorful textures. This track marks the first release from the Marlon Rabenreither-led project since their 2022 LP Headlights U.S.A. “Wild Boys” is accompanied by a nostalgia-fueled music video directed by Jordan Lovelis & Andrew Gibson.

“The actual title is copped from a William Burroughs book called The Wild Boys. I grew up in Hollywood, which is a strange place to have a childhood,” Rabenreither explains. “I like the idea of riffing on the trope of a wild, roving gang of boys. Burroughs makes his story post-apocalyptic, but I was fascinated by the idea of setting this sort of gang in Hollywood. It reminds me a lot of my own adolescence.”

Rabenreither makes the type of music that reminds us all of our adolescence, or at least reminds us to tap back into that energy. “Wild Boys” is a breezy single with light-hearted melodies that carry the purpose of child-like wonder.
