Caitlin Cannon’s upcoming release, Beggar, a four-song EP set to debut on April 5th as a standalone precursor to her forthcoming full-length album Love Addict, is all songwriting chops and vibe.
With cinematic soundscapes, nostalgic atmospheres, and words that are a testament to the enduring power of storytelling at their center, Cannon is evolving beyond the bronze status she once proudly declared in her critically lauded debut release, The TrashCannon Album.
Flush with the storytelling and instrumentation characteristic of country music, Beggar blends various genres across a dreamy, slightly melancholy sonic landscape that feels timeless and contemporary. Caitlin Cannon’s expressive vocals, now embraced in a more raw and vulnerable style, are complemented by the undeniable talent of her studio band and producer Misa Arriaga, renowned for his work with Kacey Musgraves and Willie Nelson.
Today Glide is excited to premiere the EP’s title track, a charming work of Americana that features Cannon’s heartfelt lyricism and vocals backed by a soundtrack of dreamy, twangified guitars and simple bass groove. The instrumentals give the song a cosmic country quality, complementing Cannon’s impressive vocal delivery that feels ready for radio. Lyrically, the song also touches on themes that are relatable to pretty much all of us.
Cannon describes the inspiration behind the song:
“Oh, what the hell. I was trying to convince myself I don’t want things so that I won’t look stupid or get hurt. So, I wrote a song about it, and now everybody knows. It’s all very meta that way.”
