Deep Friday Blues: Michael Bloomfield With Electric Flag Live At Monterey 1967

Guitarist Michael Bloomfield expanded upon the well-honed instrumental and improvisational skills he developed as a member of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band to form a more stylistically wide-ranging group of his own called The Electric Flag. The ostensible highlight of the group’s abbreviated existence was its appearance at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival and although their performance was not included in the initial cut of the film, a fast-paced excerpt is nonetheless a reflection of the somewhat fitful sequence of events leading to the band’s formation as well as the comparatively chaotic aftermath of leader’s departure the very next year, just months after the release of the debut LP, A Long Time Comin’.
