The nominees for the 2024 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been revealed and it’s the most rock-centric set of hopefuls in years. Ozzy Osbourne, Peter Frampton, Janes’s Addiction, Oasis, Lenny Kravitz, Foreigner, The Dave Matthews Band lead the rock side. Other nominees include A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B. & Rakim on the hip-hop side, with Mariah Carey, Sade, Kool & The Gang and Mary J. Blige filling out the R&B/Soul facets, with Sinead O’Connor and Cher completing the lineup. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released. The top vote-getters will be announced in late April and inducted in the fall during a ceremony in Cleveland.
Many arguments can be made for each artist with Jane’s Addiction’s (mainly Perry Ferrell) contribution and birth to the Lollapalooza Festival, while A Tribe Called Quest pioneered alternative hip hop and mixed jazz with hip hop. Frampton helped raise the vitality of the live album format with Frampton Comes Alive, while Oasis was almost as big as The Beatles in the mid-90s overseas. The top vote-getters will be announced in late April and inducted in the fall during a ceremony in Cleveland. Notable absentee nominees include Warren Zevon, Phish, Sparks, and Sonic Youth
