Hermanos Gutiérrez Announce New Album Sonido Cósmico Out June 14th on Easy Eye Sound

Hermanos Gutiérrez — the Ecuadorian-Swiss sibling duo of Estevan and Alejandro Gutiérrez — have announced that their new album Sonido Cósmico will be released June 14 on Easy Eye Sound. Sonido Cósmico is the follow-up to the brothers’ 2022’s breakout El Bueno Y El Malo, which Rolling Stone said “shimmers with hallucinogenic energy,” led to a Tiny Desk performance, and was named one of the Top Latin Albums of that year by NPR. Like its predecessor, Sonido Cósmico (which translates to “cosmic sound”) was produced by “third brother” Dan Auerbach. But where El Bueno Y El Malo evoked the desert — blistering sun, baking hot highways — the new work levitates the listener, conjuring the unknowable expansiveness of outer space and a world beyond our own. “It’s not on earth,” says Estevan, the elder Gutiérrez. “We’ve started to fly.”

The album announcement arrives today with a new music video for the title track, “Sonido Cósmico,” by frequent collaborator Robert “Roboshobo” Schober (Metallica, The Killers, The Arcs). Alongside the haunting, braided guitar lines that are a trademark of the HG sound, strings, drums and organ build the track to new heights, infusing the brothers’ new extraterrestrial explorations with a thrilling sense of tension and mystery. Elsewhere on Sonido Cósmico, Hermanos broaden their rhythmic palette, finding inspiration in cumbia and salsa. The collective result is a rare album that is inquisitive and experimental, yet centered by the spiritual connection that shines through in the brothers’ playing.
