LISTEN: CHAFT Reveals Its Lush Side On Catchy “Sun”

CHAFT marks the beginning of the solo venture of Derek Miller, a multi-instrumentalist from Boston, Massachusetts. With roots in the Midwest, Derek was an active participant in several bands within the Indiana music scene for several years before making the move to Massachusetts. In CHAFT, Derek explores a variety of alternative pop and rock sounds both new and old, incorporating complementary elements of multiple different genres. Derek personally handles all aspects of CHAFT’s music, with each piece being recorded and mixed in his compact home studio, mostly set up in a small closet.

CHAFT’s catchy tunes glisten with bright harmonies and lush arrangements for some surf rock-inspired tunes. “Sun” is a perfect example of all that is exciting about CHAFT. Hypnotic vocals dance in a punch-drunk manner as chaotic yet lush guitar melodies clash for a sun-drenched (no pun intended) single from their new three-track EP. Introduce yourself to the mystical chaos of CHAFT and let go of the stress for a little.

“Bringing the EP to a close, ‘Sun’ pivots to a more rhythmic acoustic experience.” Explains Miller on his new EP, Now That’s What I Call CHAFT Volume 1. “Its composition features drums, acoustic guitar, vocals, an old grand piano, and a self-recorded choir. While short in overall length, the song packs in a lot, keeping the listener on their toes with constant transitions. The lyrics explore themes of introspection, juxtaposing moments of clarity and transformation with the struggle to maintain personal focus amid uncertainty.”
