Golden Age Thursday: Del The Funky Homsapien- “Mistadobalina” Live on Much Music’s Electric Circus in 1991.

Del The Funky Homosapien has a storybook career with some enthralling chapters. From garnering global attention and commercial success with his verses on Gorillaz’s “Clint Eastwood” to creating an underground mainstay with his Oakland-based collective Hieroglyphics, there isn’t a corner of music he hasn’t infiltrated. Every great story starts somewhere and Del’s began at the young age of 19 with the release of his 1991 album I Wish My Brother George Was Here. The 14-song LP introduced the world to Del’s cartoonish cadence and vertiginous rhyme schemes. The album did fairly well commercially thanks to the stand-out hit “Mistadobalina”. To promote his debut album, Del took the stage on MuchMusic’s Electric Circus to put on an electric performance of his hit song at only 19 years old.
