LISTEN: RE:UM Blends Jazz Tropes & Blue-Eyed Soul Flashes With “In This Life”

RE:UM is a project led by Producer Elliott Eriksen, who blends electronic music with organic instrumentation to build soulful tracks that ignite a range of moods. A self-taught guitarist, bassist, and self-proclaimed “terrible pianist”, he breaks most conventional rules around conforming to genres; and in doing so has attracted a sizeable audience across platforms together with a plethora of indie editorial features.

Through hypnotic jazz tropes that are transported to the new age, RE:UM delivers a single of epically soulful proportions. “In This Life” is the reflective track that has frontman Elliot Eriksen crafting a dynamically delightful arrangement that unfolds like the plot of a cinematic masterpiece. Gospel-inspired keys and harmonies add lush textures to the baritone croons and jaw-dropping saxophone melodies that drive “In This Life”. Blending different eras of different genres is an art and RE:UM took this art form and made it his own on his latest release.

“‘In This Life’ was composed on my 5th anniversary of releasing music and draws on how exhilarating and obsessive the journey has been so far,” explains Eriksen on his new single. “Through the rollercoaster of life that we all go through, music has been a consistent breath of fresh air that has both magnified and unlocked emotions; this track was an attempt to express some of that by having reflective verses collide with more lively choruses. It was also only towards the very end that I decided to add all that disorderly saxophone because f*ck it life throws curveballs.”
