Hailing from Richmond, CA, Little Oil is the brainchild of Mexico City-born Bay Area singer-songwriter Victor Mitrani whose music is a charming and irresistible cocktail of Psych-folk, Americana, Punk, Indie Rock, and Tom Waits/Captain Beefheart weirdness. His second full-length album Twelve Songs is set to be released on March 28, 2024, on the Fountain, Inc. Tape Label.
Little Oil combines a hectic vocal performance with subtle grooves on the album highlight “Peace in the Wasteland”. The subtle grooves of the guitar somehow keep up with the raspy melodies and explosive lyricism, combining a unique take on folk with a slight touch of psychedelia. You are immediately captured by the powerful vocal performance before an array of influences melts into something entirely new, “Peace in the Wasteland” introduces us to a refreshing folk act with a natural knack for creating otherworldly textures for his powerful songwriting to call home.
“I was stuck trying to finish the lyrics to this song when I read somewhere something along the lines of ‘Yeah, you can make things very peaceful by bombing somewhere to oblivion” explains Little Oil on their new single. “Which is an insane and true thought depending on your definition of ‘Peace’. All the other lyrics fit in there nicely after that. And for some reason, it’s an Afro-Cuban rhythm.”
