Honeybear is a soul, funk, blues & roots quartet taking you on an old-school road trip through the dusty back roads of American music. While Honeybear is a relatively new band formed in 2023, the four band members are old friends and have been playing together in other formations for well over a decade, crossing paths on tours across Canada, down the West Coast, and beyond. As individual performers, they’ve played at most major Folk and Jazz/Blues festivals in Canada.
Honeybear’sr’s latest single is dripping in neon nostalgia. “I Was Wrong” sounds like a breakup song lifted straight out of the Stax studio despite the band having a stranglehold on the future of soul. Baritone backing vocals accent the rustic lead as a simplistic yet soothing arrangement guides you through your listening experience. Honeybear makes the type of music that touches the soul. Through simple yet potent lyricism and a natural knack for infectious melodies, “I Was Wrong” is a shining example of Honeybear’s natural chemistry.
“Common songwriting advice is to ‘write about what you know’’’ – lead singer and bassist Ian Beaty definitely knows a thing or two about being wrong. He does hope, though, that “being wrong has never sounded so right.”
