Weirdo Wednesday: Beck, Thurston Moore & Mike D On ‘120 Minutes’ Live 1994

It’s hard to believe it’s been over 30 years since Beck first burst onto the alternative music scene with his classic Mellow Gold album in 1994. If that doesn’t already make you feel old enough, check out this clip from MTV’s 120 Minutes, which features a strikingly awkward interview between Thurston Moore and a babyfaced Beck. Mind you, this is technically a few weeks before Mellow Gold dropped and Beck subsequently blew up, but his give zero Fs/gen-X slacker vibes are in peak form here, which stands in stark contrast to Moore’s relatively more mature (not to mention mildly pretentious) demeanor. Two legends of the alternative rock scene for sure, but they are clearly on totally different wavelengths here, which is pretty amusing. And speaking of legends, Mike D. also shows up for a seemingly impromptu jam session that just adds to the eclectic mix of musicians on display here. Ah, the mid-90s, what a time to be alive:
