LISTEN: On “ISO” TaReef KnockOut Lays Down Nostalgic Rap Flows

TaReef KnockOut is a hip-hop artist based in Tallahassee, FL. Hometown to Grammy Award winner T-Pain and, most recently, 2023 XXL Freshmen, Real Boston Richey, and Luh Tyler. TaReef began his journey as an artist earlier this decade, releasing multiple singles, EPs, albums, and visuals along the way. However, he’s paved his lane the more conventional method. Grass rooting and creating his lane as one of the best lyricists to emerge from Florida’s talent-rich rap scene. Blending a variety of genres with Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, R&B, and Pop influences. TaReef brings a combination of powerful lyrics, heartfelt storytelling, and charisma that resonate with a wide audience.

Typically, the jazz influence in hip-hop doesn’t reach past the arrangement. KnockOut’s silky smooth delivery and relaxed cadence borrow from jazz tropes just as much as the stunning keys that drive the arrangement. “ISO” is a motivational anthem that draws bridges between basketball, modern hip-hop, and nostalgic rap flows. The Florida-raised artist is more akin to the recent soulful hip-hop movements of Chicago and Virginia, although KnockOut’s uniqueness is on full display here. His refreshing perspective reminds us that goals take time to accomplish, and enjoying the ride is half the battle. “ISO” contains vivid storytelling over the subtle beauty of the arrangement as KnockOut spins his personal truths into a positive message for those who need it.

“I wrote ISO as an inspiration really to myself to keep going,” explains KnockOut. “Growing up, Allen Iverson was my favorite player in the NBA. I wore no. 3 because of him, and in this moment, I felt like A.I. when he was going at MJ. I’m not shying away from my legacy, and the G.O.A.T.s in this industry will have to respect my drive and passion.”
