Manic Monday: Vision of Disorder Throws Down NYHC Style – Live 1995

When thinking of legendary NYHC (New York Hardcore) bands, the originators of that scene from the 80s (like the Cro-Mags or Agnostic Front, for example) tend to get most of the notoriety. And rightfully so, considering they pioneered the genre. Still, the next generation of bands that emerged in the 90s and injected new energy and vitality into the scene often seem to get less admiration for whatever reason. One such band was Long Island’s Vision of Disorder, who were arguably the best band to arise from the NYHC scene in the 90s. They were certainly one of the most original, sporting a distinctive style/swagger and melodic flavor that actually made them sound more like an alternative hardcore band at times.

Perhaps their willingness to expand the boundaries of what a NYHC band could sound like is part of the reason why they’re not more widely celebrated in the scene. Still, whatever the case, there’s no denying they weren’t just as heavy (if not heavier) than their forefathers. This characteristically insane show from 1995 is resounding evidence of that and a testament to the fact that nobody brought more energy, passion, and intensity to the NYHC scene in the 90s than V.O.D. Respect.
