Does anyone else out there miss the late great Stevie Ray Vaughan? There’s something about the weather starting to really heat up this time of year that can’t help but recall some truly sizzling guitar work from one of the greatest musicians to ever come out of the red-hot Lone Star State. And while there’s no shortage of great clips showcasing Mr. Vaughan’s legendary virtuosity on guitar, it’s sometimes easy to forget how great some of his songs were in and of themselves.
Take “Change It” for example, which has always been a personal favorite and one of the first tracks that compelled this writer to start exploring S.R.V.’s discography back in the day. “Change It” sometimes gets lost in the S.R.V. shuffle, so to speak, but it’s absolutely one of the most infectious and well-rounded tunes in his entire catalog. Granted, it’s not as holy-sounding as “Lenny” or as popular as “Pride and Joy,” for example, but “Change It” has always had this sultry rhythm and energy about it that makes it something special, a certain magic that Stevie Ray Vaughan captures flawlessly in this steamy performance from 1985.
